Achieving your ideal body shape can be difficult if you genetically store fat in specific areas, are female and have had multiple pregnancies, or are noticing the effects of aging as fat moves from the extremities toward the middle of the body. Food choices and healthy activity can help you to get closer to your ideal body shape, but you may be unable to spot-sculpt specific areas of the body without help from an aesthetic surgeon. At Stephan Surgical Arts, we offer Tampa liposuction to shape and trim problem areas, revealing your desired body contours.
If you want a slimmer physique contact Dr. Brad Stephan today to learn more about your liposuction options.
Battling Stubborn Fat with
Exercise-resistant belly bulges, thigh fat, and bra rolls are common for many patients. Life changes, such as weight gain and loss, aging, and pregnancy can create changes in your body shape that affect your confidence. Those who practice healthy habits can see significant improvements in their physical contours but may still be left with fat that does not minimize over time. The most dependable way to slim these bulges is with aesthetic procedures.
Liposuction is the most dependable method to remove fat at your disposal. While there are other popular procedures for shaping the body, liposuction is capable of suctioning fat for minor to substantial exercise-resistant fat deposits.
Are You Qualified for Liposuction?
Most patients in good general health are excellent candidates for fat removal surgery. As an important note, this procedure is intended for sculpting the body and removing fat deposits. Liposuction is not a weight loss tool and should not be used to shed pounds. Ideal candidates are those who are close to their ideal weight but who are frustrated by lack of results in specific problem areas.
Patients who choose liposuction are often those who:
- Have c-sections and experience bulges of fat above or below the resulting scar
- Have unsatisfactory fatty deposits around specific areas
- Have noticed changes in fat deposits from aging (and now have a “spare tire” or excess arm fat, for example)
- Have a genetic predisposition to extra fat around the abdomen, back, thighs, arms, or other areas
Dr. Stephan’s liposuction patients are of many ages, from those in their 20s who want to fine-tune their figures to those between the ages of 40-70, after they’ve had several children or experienced body fluctuations from weight changes or aging. Men often choose liposuction to remove excess abdominal, back, or flank fat as well as to correct gynecomastia. Women often choose liposuction to remove abdominal, back, flank, thigh, or arm fat, often including liposuction as a part of a larger mommy makeover operation.
Liposuction is highly versatile and is used to remove fat deposits from many areas, including the following:
- Upper arms and armpits
- Abdomen and waist
- Lower back
- Upper back, “bra roll”
- Under the chin (“double chin”)
This list is by no means exhaustive. Your treatment plan at Stephan Surgical Arts is customized to your needs and may include one or more areas to achieve your goals.
Liposuction: Cosmetic Fat Removal in Tampa with Dr. Stephan
To begin your treatment, Dr. Brad Stephan provides general anesthesia by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to ensure you are comfortable and safe while the procedure is being performed. Our surgeon’s preferred liposuction technique is power-assisted liposuction, also called PAL. After small incisions are made at the targeted fat removal site(s), a cannula (thin tube) is inserted.
PAL uses a back-and-forth motion to dislodge fat deposits and quickly remove them. This proves to be gentler than traditional liposuction techniques, which include brisk movement of the cannula to break-up cells. Liposuction can create bruising and swelling, but PAL minimizes these effects and allows Dr. Stephan to effectively contour desired areas using techniques that are easier on surrounding tissue. This also proves to work quite well in areas of the body where fat is dense and requires extra effort to remove, such as the back and abdomen.
For both Dr. Stephan and his patients, PAL liposuction has an obvious benefit and creates impressive results.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fat Removal Surgery
The fees for your procedure vary depending on the amount of fat to be removed and how many treatment areas will be addressed. Liposuction costs $2,000 to $10,000 on average, again dependent on the number of areas treated and how the operation is performed. Your consultation is the best time to discuss your budget and goals, as every patient is different.
Post-treatment swelling is perhaps liposuction patients’ most common complaint, as swelling can obscure the results. Swelling is temporary, however, and while it may persist for several weeks, it will subside to reveal your new physique. Dr. Stephan recommends patients wear compression garments around the treatment area to help with swelling. This will be further discussed during your consultation and each of your postoperative visits. The first week after surgery is when swelling is the most pronounced.
Many popular new technologies promise to sculpt the body without incisions and with little to no recovery. These may be beneficial to patients with genuinely minor fat deposits, but it does not meet the needs of patients who want predictable and dependable results for mild to moderate excess fat. These non-invasive methods usually cost the same (or more) than liposuction, and often have significantly inferior results.
Patients are understandably anxious to see their results after treatment, but it is important to understand that the procedure doesn’t create immediate results. You’ll feel smaller than you were previously, but you won’t be able to determine your exact new figure until swelling subsides. Patience is key!
Liposuction is normally performed under general anesthesia in our surgical practice. This is a safe and comfortable manner to have this operation performed. General anesthesia is extremely safe, and it is arguably much more safe to have this operation performed under general anesthesia than local anesthesia alone. Anesthesia at our facility is only provided by Board-Certified Anesthesiologists; this sets our practice apart from many others.
Any type of cosmetic surgery is intended to enhance the individual’s aesthetic appearance. None of these operations are indicated to help you lose weight. Liposuction is a great operation to contour the body but must not be thought of as a quick way to lose weight.
Anytime that an incision is placed on the skin, a scar will form. However, we take great precautions to minimize and hide scarring under underwear/swimwear. The incisions for liposuction are very small and normally unnoticeable after the healing process.
Individuals who undergo liposuction normally return to work in one to two weeks (depending on the extent of liposuction performed). This also depends on the type of work that the individual performs.
Liposuction removes much of the external fat in the area. However, a small amount of fat cells will remain. The removed fat cells are gone forever; however, the remaining fat cells will enlarge if you gain weight. This enlargement will remain proportional to the rest of your body if you gain weight.
